EDIT: Smoothed some things out and intensified his shading a little :P Sorry for the re-upload, folks.

A doodle that eventually turned itself into lineart, crawled onto my computer, and refused to move until I colored it |: Do like the result though, this being the first digitally colored deviation I've done in a long, long time. I even tried my hand at a background (with rocks, nonetheless). If you see any awkward brush strokes, keep in mind that this was mouse-colored, seeing as me has no tablet. I did the best I could to keep everything smooth, but, well, yeah xP

So! Keep on reading if you're interested about this particular beastie.

Pans (who call themselves jesmyrc) are nasty, primitive little shits. They don't hesitate to charge at people or other animals, and break out in giggles if they can get the other to topple over, or to simply run away pissing himself. There are stories of pans capturing humans, harassing, torturing, and even killing them, though the latter has yet to be confirmed.

Unlike their now-extinct cousin, the satyr, theirs can hardly be called a culture; they have a language, a vague social system, but little else. The crowning achievement of their people is the cyvert: a crudely made musical pipe, fashioned from hollowed-out dragon horn. It is used for sounding out scouting calls, but since they lack the mental creativity to compose songs, it is rarely used for recreational purposes.

Their main way of life is nomadic. There is a savannah species that is generally more rooted, but the common canyon pan spends most of his life searching for the rare greens in his climate. Males go out in scouting parties, fanning the mountains and rocky valleys for a food source, and then sound their cyvert if they come across anything. The other scouts and the rest of the tribe--composed of younger children and hornless females--make their way up to him. They will forage at this new site for weeks until the greens are gone, or until a predator is sighted in the area.

(So, really, I don't know why my subject here is using his pipe; there's no greens that I can see.)

Wow, I love the way you did the hands. Do you have a story going with all of these characters you're making? :)

Thank you! :D Yes I do, though like many people who claim they have a story idea they'd like to write, much of the plot needs to be refined.

Looks pretty cool... you've got a lot of strange beasties on your world. ;) And maybe he's just sighted some greens but is standing on the rock 'cause he'll be easier to find?
